Boise Cascade Announces Layoffs at Elgin Mill

ELGIN -- Boise Cascade says it's curtailing production at its Elgin stud mill, and about 30 workers will be laid off.
An official with the wood products manufacturer told The Observer newspaper of La Grande that weak market conditions and subpar projections for housing starts led to the decision.
The mill is curtailing its second shift effective Monday, April 6. Roughly 100 workers will remain at the mill.
Boise Cascade just mothballed its mill in White City last week, idling dozens of workers.
