Ashland Police department recruiting female officers

ASHLAND, Ore. - The Ashland Police wants more women on the force.
Wednesday night several women in law enforcement shared their stories at Southern Oregon University.

The ashland police department has two female officers, down from 6 about ten years ago. The department tells us women can be very effective in ways some male officers cant be.

Professor Dr. Lee Ayers  of Southern Oregon University hopes that having women in law enforcement share their stories will spark an interest among students.

"As we see females trying to get out there and get positions they are coming up against officers, who are already trained, that have their certification from the academy...and are not quite having the same qualifications going in," explained criminology Professor Dr. Lee Ayers  of Southern Oregon University

Ayer says in a tough job market it is increasingly difficult for women to break into the force. She hopes that showing success stories could open a door for many young women
