Arrests for Boating While Drunk on Rogue River
A special enforcement action netted two drunken boating arrests and numerous citations for safety equipment violations at the mouth of the Rogue River in Curry County this weekend.
As part of a coordinated, national effort targeting Boating Under the Influence of Intoxicants (BUII), Oregon State Police and the Curry County Sheriff's Marine Division conducted a weekend special enforcement project from the mouth of the Rogue River to Foster Bar as part of "Operation Dry Water."
The effort is designed to reduce the number of alcohol-related accidents and fatalities and create a visible deterrent to alcohol use on the water.
More than 50 boaters were contacted during the two-day operation Friday and Saturday. Two were arrested for BUII, several were cited for no personal flotation devices, and many were warned for not carrying required boating safety equipment.
