Most criminal charges dropped against former Central Point Officer

MEDFORD, Ore. - Most of the criminal charges against former Central Point Police Officer Dan Brown have been dropped.

Brown was accused of having sexual relations with a minor while he was a school resource officer in Central Point. After that came out, Brown lost his job at the school and was later fired from the department.

The Josephine County District Attorney determined the relationship did not start until the girl was of legal age. Those charges have been dropped, but the investigation brought up different charges.

The case was turned over to the Josephine County District Attorney to avoid any conflict of interest. Stephen Campbell reviewed all of the information in the case, from interviews conducted by Central Point Police, to personal emails sent back and forth. After review it was determined Brown did not have a sexual relation with a minor.

"I didn't find credible evidence of that or evidence that I could prove that with, and I think the best evidence was consistent with the officers statement that he had started the relationship after she was over 18 years of age," said Campbell.

While those charges were dropped Campbell did find evidence implying Brown served alcohol to a minor on new year's eve of this year.

Campbell tells me he felt obligated to file that charge. Providing alcohol to a minor is a misdemeanor and Brown is likely to be arraigned at the end of this month.
