Teachers at Scenic Middle School find classrooms vandalized

Vandalism at a Central Point middle school

Vandalism at Scenic Point Middle School:
  • Four classrooms were vandalized with graffiti, soil and teacher's personal items destroyed
  • Police estimate $10,000 in damage
  • Police believe it was students who caused the mess
  • Teachers were able to positively identify some suspects from surveillance video

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Teachers at Scenic Middle School were met with an unfortunate surprise when four classrooms were found vandalized, Tuesday morning.

Police reported four rooms were covered in graffiti profanity, potted soil was dumped on the floors and teachers' personal items were tampered with. Chemicals from a science room were taken and poured on computer keyboards. The Central Point School District is inspecting the room before students can reenter.

Until then, some students attended class in their library.

Police are estimating the damage at $10,000. They believe it was students who are responsible.

For teachers, this is a big let down.

Vicki Robinson, the Director of Business Services at the Central Point School District said, "[Teachers] are disappointed that kids would do this...they again don't want this to ruin the first day of school."

School started as normal, Tuesday. Three of the vandalized rooms were cleaned up in time for the first day of classes.

Police are still investigating but they believe they may have a lead on who caused the mess.

"The surveillance cameras were working and school staff and myself reviewed [the video] and there is some possible identification with the teachers that might recognize the people in the video," said Sgt. Jeff Britton of the Central Police Department.

He added, "There were a lot of unhappy teachers, today."
