SEASIDE, Ore. -- A powerful storm slammed the Oregon coast, leaving several rivers at or near flood stage Tuesday.

Between 2 and 2 1/2 inches of rain fell overnight and two rivers -- the Willapa and the Grays - exceeded flood stage.

Winds exceeded 60 mph in some parts of the North coast. Farther south, wind gusts at or exceeding 89 mph were reported at Waldport and Garibaldi.

In Seaside, the roof of the old City Hall building blew off. Flooding south of the city caused U.S. Highway 101 to be closed to small vehicles. Cannon Beach Elementary School is closed Tuesday because of a power outage. All other Seaside schools are open.

The U.S. Coast Guard closed the bars at the Columbia River and Tillamook Bay.

The National Weather Service predicts another coastal storm for Wednesday night.
