Thieves Again Targeting Copper
More thefts of metal in the area.
Thieves are again taking aim at any kind of copper products they can steal. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says it's seen an increase in all kinds of metal theft recently. Including three cases of stolen telecommunication lines in the southern part of the county.
According to Andrea Carlson with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office "they cut this down and melt everything else around it and then sell the copper somewhere."
Carlson also says the thieves can get up to $3 a pound for copper, "they'll turn it into scrap metal or what not and so what we have learned is the last three cases we are currently dealing with right now it's about equivalent with labor and the cost of materials to about $30,000."
The recent thefts damaged property but also left residents without phone and internet. If you have any information about the stolen copper contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
