Man Arrested in Fatal DUII Accident
Oregon State Police arrested a Eugene-area man Wednesday for manslaughter, assault, and DUII charges related to a July fatal traffic crash that killed a Eugene woman and caused injuries to three others on Highway 36 near Blachly.
Ricky Lee Gunderson, 22, was arrested and lodged in Lane County Jail for second-degree manslaughter, third-degree assault, DUII, and recklessly endangering another person.
On July 19 at about 7:45 p.m., a 2004 Kia Spectra four-door driven by Cheryl MacNeil, age 47, from Eugene, was westbound on Highway 36 near milepost 30 when an eastbound Toyota Tacoma pickup driven by Gunderson crossed the centerline into the path of the Kia. Both vehicles collided head-on in the westbound lane.
MacNEIL was extricated from her car by fire personnel and transported by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital but she reportedly died enroute. A passenger in her car, ROBERT RUSLEY from Junction City, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Gunderson and passenger Matt Swanger, from Eugene, was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
OSP troopers from the Springfield office were assisted at the scene by members of the Lane County Sheriffs Office, ODOT, Lane Rural Fire Department, and the Lake Creek Rural Fire Department.
