UPDATED 11:48 AM: Power restored to all in Klamath Falls
UPDATE 11:48 AM: Pacific Power reports that electricity has been restored to all customers in the Klamath Falls area and a cause of the outage remains undetermined.
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -- Power was been knocked out to approximately 17,000 customers in Klamath Falls this morning and 3,754 remain in the dark. Three schools, including Klamath Union High School, remain affected.
At 9:50 AM, Pacific Power reported 3,754 customers were still without power. A cause of the outage, which began about 8:40 AM, had not been found but it was narrowed down to a substation on the west side of town.
Klamath City Schools Superintendent Cecelia Amuchastegui said most of the schools were able to continue instruction without problem as light was available through classroom windows. Only Ponderosa Junio High had problems with lighting as some classes have little available ambient light.
The concern now is whether power will be restored to Klamath Union High School, Fairview Elementary and Link River Alternative School in time for lunch.
Temperatures in Klamath Falls this morning were in the 20s and expected to hover at or below freezing until the fog lifts later in the day.
We'll post more information here as it becomes available.
