On the Town for June 6-7
Events in Jacksonville, Gold Hill, Lake of the Woods and Grants Pass
Britt throws a party, and so does Gold Hill. Plus you can fish for free this weekend. Here are the details in this week's On the Town!
Britt is opening with a bang! The popular summer festival kicks off their season this Sunday, with a celebration in downtown Jacksonville. There'll be live music -- featuring acts from reggae to jazz. A wine walk including 15 different local wineries. And booths set up to teach about the history of the festival and give people a heads up about what to expect in this year's lineup, which includes talented performers like Sheryl Crow, Blues Traveler and Los Lonely Boys.
Gold Hill will also be celebrating this weekend, but for a different reason. The town's Annual Gold Dust Day Festival is this Saturday. Pan for gold, hop on a horse-drawn wagon ride, or munch on some yummy fair food. This year's theme is "Sustaining the Spirit of Oregon," in honor of the states sesquicentennial birthday. The day begins with a parade at 10am that runs through downtown.
Everything's coming up roses in Grants Pass. The Rogue Valley Rose Society is hosting a "Wine and Rose" show at the Josephine County Fairgrounds. The free event offers folks a chance to view the popular flower, while also enjoying wine from a local Applegate winery. Stop and smell the roses this Saturday from 1 to 4 pm.
Calling all fisherman - now's your chance to fish for free! This weekend at the Lake of the Woods Resort youngsters who have never fished before can test their skills for no charge. Bring your own pole, or make one there to keep as a souvenir. The event runs Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 3pm both days.
