Fatal crash on Highway 140

ROCKY POINT, Ore. -- An 82-year-old man died Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his vehicle on Highway 140W in the Lake of the Woods Safety Corridor and crashed into a large tree.  Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation.

According to OSP Sergeant Robert Fenner, on November 21, 2009 at approximately 1:29 p.m. a vehicle driven by JOE LENOX STONE, age 82, from the Rocky Point area west of Klamath Falls, was eastbound on Highway 140W near milepost 47.  STONE lost control of the vehicle on icy conditions and drove off the highway and rolled before striking a large tree.

STONE was using safety restraints and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

OSP troopers from the Klamath Falls Area Command office are continuing the investigation and driving too fast for conditions is a possible contributing factor.

ODOT and Harriman Rural Fire Protection District personnel assisted at the scene.
