Lakeview traffic stop nets 41 pounds of pot, 1 arrest
LAKEVIEW, Ore. -- An Oregon State Police traffic stop in the Lakeview area on Sunday afternoon led to the arrest of a Washington man following the discovery of about 41 pounds of marijuana in the man's vehicle.
According to OSP Sergeant Steve Yates, on September 6, 2009 at approximately 4:17 p.m., an OSP trooper stopped a white 1996 Volkswagen Jetta occupied by two men on Highway 395 near milepost 126 for a traffic violation. The vehicle's driver was identified as ARTURO XAVIER GOMEZ-GUEVARA, age 25, from Cashmere, Washington.
Subsequent investigation during the traffic stop led to the discovery of about 41 pounds of marijuana in the car's trunk.
GOMEZ-GUEVARA was arrested and lodged in the Lake County Jail for Unlawful Possession, Manufacture and Distribution of a Controlled Substance - Marijuana. He was also cited for Failure to Carry or Present a Driver's License.
The 24-year old Hispanic male passenger from Federal Way, Washington was not arrested.
The estimated value of the seized marijuana is approximately $100,000.
