Local Businesses Top 100 Green List
ASHLAND, Ore. -- Oregon Business Magazine has created a list of the Top 100 Best Green Companies.
Ashland's Standing Stone Brewing Co. placed the highest of the seven Southern Oregon companies that made the list. They came in at 28 statewide. Another Ashland business made the list: The Ashland Food Co-op came in at number 45.
Encore Ceramics in Grants Pass was right behind Standing Stone at 29, Medford fruit processor Sabroso was number 35, Avista Utilities in Medford was 43, tile importer/distributor Hakatai Enterprises of Ashland was at 44. Contractor Adroit Construction of Ashland was listed at 53.
Eric Bell, chef at Standing Stone, says being green is a lifestyle.
"We're people that believe in being green, sustainable practices, and we support it and we live it," he said.
Bell explained that they are enviornmentally concious at just about every level. They try to buy organic food from local farmers as much as possible. Their food containers are almost all recyclable, and the restaurant and brewery has solar panels on the roof.
According to the magazine, the 100 Best Green Companies rankings were calculated by Oregon Business research editor Brandon Sawyer and research partner Davis, Hibbitts & Midghall based on confidential employee surveys and a report completed by each company.
