Dog breeder loses home and 43 dogs
GRANTS PASS, ORE. – A local breeder foreclosed on her home and donated 43 puppies to the Josephine County Animal Shelter.
Supervisor Brad Tally said, “Basically we're going through right now and cataloguing the animals to make sure we have the ability to track them in our facility.”
There are pure breed Yorkshire and Maltese puppies among the 43 dogs.
“These are all specialty dogs,” said Tally. “So they’re expensive dogs if you were to buy them at a pet store or from a breeder.”
Many of the dogs were covered in fleas and had matted fur.
“I didn't think it really existed outside of reality tv,” said Volunteer Vivian Clarke as she gave a dog a flea bath.
According to Tally, he has seen about an 80% increase in the pets dropped off because of foreclosed homes.
