Central Point man killed at Rogue Valley Mall

MEDFORD, Ore. -- A 51-year-old man died in the Rogue Valley Mall parking lot Thursday night, apparently killed when he became pinnedunder the tire of his truck.

Medford police, firefighters and Mercy Flights medics reponded to the Rogue Valley Mall at about 9 PM near the Macy’s Home Store, 1600 N. Riverside Ave.

When emergency responders arrived, they were flagged down by a citizen who pointed out the victim, who was partially pinned underneath a parked 2003 black GMC pick-up, Medford police reported.

Mark Allen Rowland was dead upon their arrival. A detective from the Medford Police Department along with a deputy medical examiner with the Jackson County Sheriff’s department were summoned to the scene to assist investigating officers with the Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (STAR).

Initial investigation appears to show that Rowland was working on the undercarriage of the pick-up while the vehicle was running and parked on an incline. The vehicle rolled backwards, pinning him. It is believed that he was trapped under the vehicle for about 15 minutes before a Medford woman found him after leaving work inside the mall, police said.
