UPDATED: Jackson County Goes Blue For Obama ... Just
It's nothing personal, John, but your party's old Southern Oregon flame has gone head-over-voter registration for Obama and the Democratic Party -- relatively speaking.
It's taken more than two weeks to find out, but longtime Republican stronghold Jackson County appears to have gone for President-elect Barack Obama. And voter registration information shows a huge influx of registered Democrats -- up 18 percent from 2006.
The latest results show Obama holds a 47-vote margin. Last week, Republican John McCain led by 142 votes.
Election officials pored over the county's last remaining ballots Wednesday. Obama had 48.58 percent of the vote and McCain
48.53 percent.
Elections officials say the numbers are not likely to change before the election results are certified Monday. Two precincts are being hand-counted to verify the vote's accuracy.
