Yahoo Engineer Kills Five Family Members in Murder-Suicide

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Santa Clara police say the man who gunned down his family in an apparent murder-suicide was an engineer at Yahoo who was helping his brother-in-law settle into Silicon Valley.

Investigators say the shooting rampage by Devan Kalathat Sunday night left six people dead and one critically injured at his home in an upscale neighborhood of Santa Clara.

Police are exploring the possibility of a family dispute, but they don't believe it was financially motivated.

Police identified those killed as Kalathat's eleven-year-old son, his four-year-old daughter, his brother-in-law, his sister-in-law, and his eleven-month old niece.

The 42-year-old Kalathat was also found dead at the scene from a self-inflicted wound.

Kalathat's wife -- whose name was not released -- is the only survivor. Police say she remains in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds.
