OSP: Arcata, Calif., man arrested with marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms
BURNS, Ore -- A California man was arrested Wednesday during an Oregon State Police traffic stop about 10 miles east of Burns when a trooper found about a quarter-pound of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms. Two other vehicle occupants were cited to appear for Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana, OSP reported.
According to OSP Sgt. Brian Williams, at 8:20 a.m. an OSP recruit trooper stopped a black 2001 Honda Civic for traveling 73 mph in a 55 mph speed zone on Highway 20 near milepost 142. The car had three occupants, two males and a female, and one of them was identified as passenger KENNETH ENGEL, age 24, from Arcata, Calif.
Subsequent investigation related to the traffic stop led to the discovery of four ounces of marijuana, 5 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and $1,556 in cash. In addition, scales, packaging material and paraphernalia were also found in the vehicle.
ENGEL was arrested and lodged at the Harney County Correctional Facility for Unlawful Delivery and Possession of a Controlled Substance - Marijuana, and Unlawful Possession of Psilocybin Mushrooms.
The other two occupants were both cited for Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana and released from the scene.
