Parents take STEPS fight to Facebook and community
MEDFORD, Ore. -- Parents are sending a petition around, hoping to get their special needs students in the new South Medford High building.
They're collecting signatures hoping to change the minds of Medford Schools and Education Service District to put the STEPS program in the new multi-mullion dollar South Medford High, instead of being left behind at the old campus.
Parents are also taking their fight to Facebook.
There are nearly 200 members on the facebook site titled, "Inclusion for all students at South Medford."
"I love the support, we're all getting together finally and trying to make something happen," Barbara Ingram said.
Ingram pulled her son, Jonathan, out of the STEPS program this year and has decided to home school him.
They'll be bringing all of the signatures to the Southern Oregon ESD board meeting and the Medford Schools board meeting later this month.
Medford Schools Superintendent Phil Long and ESD Superintendent Scott Perry said they are welcoming those concerns from parents.
They said it will be up to the board members of what to do with their efforts.
