Police: Man Strikes Woman with Phone Then Stabs Her

LA PINE, Ore. (AP) - Assault and attempted murder charges have

been filed against a Central Oregon man accused of striking a woman

with a telephone and then stabbing her with a knife.

The Deschutes County Sheriff's Office says the incident occurred

late Saturday at a La Pine home, when 57-year-old Karen Tharp tried

to call 9-1-1 during a verbal dispute with 23-year-old Nathan

Kelly.

Lt. Shane Nelson says Tharp was taken by ambulance to a Bend

hospital while police searched for Kelly.

They found him on the roof of another La Pine home. The

sheriff's office says he resisted arrest, and was shot with a stun

gun and bitten by a police dog before being taken to the county

jail.

He is being held without bail because of a parole violation.
