Klamath Falls Student Pilot Injured In Idaho Crash

A small plane crashed shortly after taking off from the Burley Municipal Airport, injuring two people.

The Cassia County sheriff's office says the plane also struck power lines at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, knocking out power to a large portion of downtown Burley. Investigators say the victims, a student pilot and instructor, were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries.

Police identified the student pilot as Kim Paulsen, of Klamath Falls, Oregon, and the instructor as Chris Butler.

Police say Butler had just bought the plane in New York and was en route to Caldwell, Idaho. Butler told investigators the plane had just taken off, but was losing power before hitting the power line and crashing at an intersection.

The plane, an amphibious Republic Seabee built in 1946, suffered extensive damage.
