Portland Police get autopsy in officer-involved shooting
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The autopsy shows a suicidal man shot by Portland police Wednesday died of a single gunshot to the head.
The two officers who fired at Brad Lee Morgan have been place on leave while the incident is investigated. A Multnomah County grand jury will review the case.
The shooting has some thinking the police bureau should return to a policy of having a special crisis intervention team on duty to respond to such calls.
Officers had called for negotiators and mental health workers to talk to the man, but they had not yet arrived when Morgan pulled out what looked like a gun. It was a fake replica.
Chief Mike Reese defends the current approach. He says all officers have crisis intervention training.
