Restaurant Essay Contest
OAKLAND, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon woman using an essay contest to sell a 5,000-square foot restaurant lowered the entrance fee by 80 percent in an effort to stir interest.
Not one person paid the $500 entrance fee for a chance to win Tolly's, a restaurant in the southwest Oregon town of Oakland.
To attract entries, Myra Plant has dropped the fee to $100. The discount means she and co-owner Jeffrey Parker will need 10,000 entrants, instead of 2,000, to net the $1 million they seek.
For the Tolly's contest, entrants must write an essay that tells a panel of judges about their signature dish and what makes them uniquely qualified to own the restaurant.
