State puts brakes on computer upgrade project
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A $92 million upgrade of the Oregon Department of Revenue's computer system is on hold because the state can't afford $13 million in start-up costs.
Acting Revenue Director Karen Gregory says the project will be delayed into next year.
Gregory and state Chief Operating Officer Michael Jordan decided to put the brakes on the project rather than ask legislators to weigh the computer system against money for public safety and human services.
The computer system is responsible for processing $7 billion a year. A legislative committee will hold a hearing on the computer system next Thursday at the Capitol.
