Cold Enough for Snow? Not Likely on the Valley Floor Until Tonight

A cold upper-level trough today will lower snow levels currently at about 2,000 to 2,500 feet down to 1,500 feet, which is just above Medford's 1,300 feet.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow is in effect for elevations above 1,500 feet until 4 p.m. today. This means Ashland and Talent and foothill towns could see snowfall and some accumulation, perhaps 3 to 5 inches at the higheast foothill locations during the day today. Snowfall will be a foot or so at higher elevations. East of the Cascades, 5 to 8 inches could fall.

A half inch may be on the ground by morning as the temperature drops below freezing in Medford tonight, with a 70 percent chance of snow showers, the National Weather Service reports.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow may cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow-covered roads and limited visibility above 1,500 feet through this afternoon and use caution while driving.

The region's passes all had snow this morning, with chain restrictions in place on the Siskiyou Summit and on Highway 140 at Lake of the Woods.
