Outdoor business in Shady Cove recoops loss from colder summer
Rapid Pleasures, a raft rental shop saw business losses from cold weather early this summer.
Hot weather in July and August caused a surge of customers and owner, Devon Stephenson said it made up for slow start.
SHADY COVE, Ore -- Summer comes to a close and recreational businesses are tallying their gains and losses from this year.
Rapid Pleasures, a raft rental shop loaded up a van full of families getting in their last-minute travel fun before the school starts.
The Labor Day weekend brings many who are looking for outdoor entertainment, according to owner Devon Stephenson. His business is busy now but the beginning of summer was a different story.
"We were just dead. We didn't do anything, just waiting around for the sun to come out... Once the weather got better in July it became real busy for us," said Stephenson.
May and June were low months, but in July Rapid Pleasures had a waiting list for raft rentals.
The Godfrey family waited patiently outside the shop eager to enjoy the last bit of sun, and for mother, Liz Godfrey anticipating a little more quiet but anxious about the upcoming school hustle.
"I'm excited to have the house a little quiet for the time. I'm not looking forward to getting the kids up and ready for the school when I am trying to get ready for work at the same time," said Godfrey.
Stephenson said the hot weather in July and August made up for the slow start to the busy season.
