Former Superintendent Loses Teaching License in Child Mistreatment Case

ASTORIA, Ore. -- A state licensing agency has revoked the teaching license of a former rural school administrator accused of mistreating his adopted teenage daughter.

The Oregon Teachers Standards and Practices Commission says that John Seeley's conduct with his daughter makes him unfit to work with children.

Seeley is the former superintendent of the Jewell School District in Clatsop County. He was accused of withholding food and medical care and injuring the girl. He was put on probation in a deal the district attorney calls "a guilty finding held in abeyance."

Seeley was placed on paid leave from his top post in 2006. Over five years as superintendent he'd racked up more than $360,000 in expense reimbursements.
