OSP: K.Falls Driver Speeding 111 MPH Prior to Short Chase

A Klamath Falls man is in custody in the Klamath County jail following an attempt to elude an OSP trooper on Thursday evening.

On June 18, 2009, Tpr. Robert Fenner of the Klamath Falls Area Command was working radar speed enforcement on Highway 140W at MP 47. About 5:35 PM, he was passed by a silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo traveling at 111 MPH, according to the trooper's radar. Highway 140W is a 55 MPH zone.

Trooper Fenner attempted to stop the Monte Carlo but the driver fled from the trooper and was able to elude the trooper after a short pursuit.

A short time later, following an anonymous tip, Tpr. Fenner contacted David Rodenkirch, 51, at his residence, which was about two miles from where Tpr. Fenner lost sight of the Monte Carlo.

Rodenkirch was eventually arrested for Attempt to Elude a Police Officer, Driving While Suspended-Misdemeanor, and DUII. He was subsequently lodged at the Klamath County Jail.

In addition to the criminal charges, Rodenkirch was also cited for exceeding 100 MPH. Since 2006, Oregon law requires that anyone convicted of exceeding 100 MPH faces a minimum fine of $1,103.00 and a mandatory 30-90 day license suspension.
