Air quality descends into 'moderate' and 'unhealthy' categories

MEDFORD, Ore. -- Smoke from burn piles, chimneys and now a controlled burn visible from most of the valley burning on a hill west of Phoenix is sending air quality in the Rogue Valley into "moderate" and "unsafe for sensitive groups" categories.

Medford and Applegate were listed as moderate between 2 and 3 PM, while Klamath Falls and Grants Pass both were in the unhealthy range. Shady Cove was in the good range.

The day started as a "burn day" but weather conditions changed, trapping smoke in the valley.
