ARTURO ARCIGA

Mexican Man Sentenced For Drug Ring Based In Family's Eugene Business

EUGENE -- A 30-year-old Mexican man who used a Eugene auto repair business as a front for a family drug-trafficking operation has been sentenced to more than 13 years in federal prison.

Arturo Arciga pleaded guilty to selling four pounds of heroin and 9.4 ounces of methamphetamine to a federal undercover agent. Arciga faces deportation to Mexico after completing the sentence handed down Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Michael Hogan.

In an 18-page sentencing memo, prosecutors described Arciga as an upper-level manager in a sophisticated drug ring infiltrated by local police and federal agents during an eight-month investigation that began in mid-2006.

Arciga was among 32 people arrested in Lane County in March 2007. More than two dozen of those defendants have since been convicted and sentenced.
