Family Finds Missing Selma Woman's Car, Body in Creek

Family members reported to police Thursday afternoon that they had found the body of a Selma woman who failed to return home from a visit with friends the night before.

Josephine County Sheriff's Office reports that Renee Nadine Kieffer's 25-year-old son called 9-1-1 to report that he and his father had just found Kieffer's car overturned in Clear Creek just off Hidden Creek Road in Selma southwest of Grants Pass.

Before emergency responders could arrive, family members also found her body floating in the creek not far from the crash.

Detectives believe 54-year-old Kieffer, a Lakeshore Drive resident, left a friend's home near the crash site around midnight Wednesday. She drove her car down a winding private dirt road and apparently drove off the side of a narrow bridge over Clear Creek. Her car landed upside down about 10-15 feet below.

Creek water swept Kieffer's body from the car and downstream about 20 yards, where she was found the next day.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death in this incident.
