IN THE NEWS: SENATE PANEL TO ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT IRS BREACH
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Just how could someone electronically slip into an IRS website and make off with the personal information of more than 100,000 taxpayers? It's a question Congress is demanding answers to. The head of the Senate Finance Committee has asked for a briefing by IRS officials by the end of next week about the breach of the online system called "Get Transcript." But don't expect many answers right away. The briefing being requested by Senator Orrin Hatch is supposed to be confidential. Meanwhile, two officials have told The Associated Press that the IRS believes the data breach is part of a sophisticated criminal operation based in Russia.
IN THE NEWS: GPS LEADS TO DUI
FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) -- Their GPS led them to -- a DUI bust. Authorities in Pennsylvania say a man and woman driving to a hotel in suburban Philadelphia were looking for a place to stay -- but ended up with accommodations that were not as cozy as the ones they had in mind. TV station WPVI reports Richard Schnee and 44-year-old Ardean Marie Smith were arrested and booked for drunken driving Sunday. The two were driving separately to the hotel -- using directions from the woman's GPS unit. Instead, the instructions led both cars to the Upper Dublin Police Department. When they wound up in a restricted area, authorities smelled alcohol on their breath -- and they were taken in after a field sobriety test.
