UPDATED: Several Lightning Fires Reported in So. Oregon, NorCal
Oregon Department of Forestry and the National Weather Service are monitoring several small fires sparked by recent lightning, including the 9-acre Dorris fire burning between the Siskiyou Summit and Dorris.
Smaller lightning-sparked fires are currently reported north of Happy Camp (Goff Butte fire) along the state line and east of Butte Falls (Dole fire).
Erica Hupp, information officer for the Fremont-Winema National Forest, said lightning has sparked a total of 11 fires in Klamath and Lake counties, with the Dorris fire the largest of those she is monitoring. She said fire crews have established a line around the Dorris fire and are currently mopping up. The next largest fire is on US Forest land in Klamath County at 2.5 acres and the remainder are limited to a little more than a single tree.
Weather conditions are favorable for fire growth in these rugged regions, although winds will be light and fire danger has not yet reached extreme levels. Highs in the region are forecast for the upper 90s and low 100s.
