Darex Embezzler Faces Similar Charges in Curry County

A Brookings man is charged with stealing at least $300,000 from his employer. The Curry County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is continuing and the amount of money missing is expected to go higher.
Gary Alan Green was the chief financial officer of Tidewater Contracting in Brookings.
The Curry Coastal Pilot reports the amount stolen as more than $1 million, and says Green had a large sailboat packed and ready to go.
Green was arrested today and charged with aggravated theft.
His bail was set at ten million dollars, in part because of the large amount of money involved, because he has a boat capable of going out to sea and a passport, and because of his prior convictions.
Green was arrested in Jackson County in 2002 and accused of theft after more than $500,000 was embezzled from the Darex Corporation in Ashland, where he worked as an accountant.
Green pleaded guilty to aggravated theft and sentenced to 18 months in prison.
