Community Walks for Libraries in Josephine County

About 50 people gathered in Grants Pass this morning to raise money for the closed libraries in Josephine County.

Volunteers walked a mile through the city to show their support for the libraries.

The central library and branches in Illinois Valley, Williams, and Wolf Creek have been closed for more than a year.

Volunteers estimate it will take one million dollars a year to run the libraries but say they believe it can't be done without community support.

"When a community joins together, they can do anything. And our town does need a library. So when the community comes together and supports this effort, we'll have a library," Barbara Ketley, president Friends of the Library.

Josephine Community Libraries has set out yellow fundraising envelopes to every household in the county.
