Oregon Landmark in Need of Repairs
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The historic Heceta Head lighthouse is one of the most photographed locations on the Pacific Coast
But recent inspects showed that the beloved Oregon landmark has been severely damaged by water, after decades of Pacific storms that have pounded into the building.
Officials say that's causing corrosion on the steel structures that support the lantern, and on the spiral staircase inside the lighthouse.
Dennis Davidson, the Central Coast District Manager for Oregon Parks and Recreation, says the exterior should be sealed up so that structural damaged can be repaired.
Repairs could cost over a million dollars and take several years.
Parks officials are hoping to get a federal grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation to cover most of the costs.
