They're Rooster Crowing in Rogue River

It's the biggest event of the year in the city of Rogue River. The 55th annual Rooster Crow kicked off Friday but Saturday, the real cock-a-doodle-doo competition began.

The winner this year was 25-year-old Ann Thompson of Greenbrier, Arkansas, who traveled 2,600 miles to enter the competition.

Thompson has also won rooster crow competitions at the state and national levels.

"Back home we call y'all the world human crow place, we consider this the world championship," Thompson said. "I guess came out this way to win the contest everyone back home is rootin for me."

Thompson lives on a farm and grew up raising chickens and roosters and enjoys mimicking their noises.

"I want to use my talent to encourage kids to stand strong do what's right," she said of her motivation.

Then it was time for the real experts to work their magic. Judges picked from the audience, had to count how many times the real roosters could crow in thirty minutes. Coordinators say the event was started in 1953, and has been going strong for 55 years.
