Inaugural Safety Fair and Emergency Vehicle Show

Dozens of law enforcement and safety agencies converged on the Jackson County Expo for an inaugural safety fair and emergency vehicle show.

The event included demonstrations from the sheriff's K9 unit, as well as displays on fire safety and crime prevention.

Smokey the Bear and McGruff the Crime Dog were also on hand.

Organizers say the fair is designed to be fun, but also provide accountability for government agencies.

"The best thing about putting it on is just allowing the public to see what their tax dollars are paying for," said Lt. Rob Underwood. "Everything you see here is everything we're using to protect people with. These are the tools of our trade that we use to protect our community."

A search and rescue helicopter did take offs and landings in the parking lot.

Organizers hope to make the fair an annual event.
