New Storm to Bring Heavy Snow; Valleys May Get a White Christmas

CLICK HERE FOR THE LATEST FORECAST

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow running from 10 p.m. tonight through 4 p.m. Wednesday for higher elevations in Southern Oregon. At the same time a Winter Storm Warning will go into effect in Northern California, where one to two feet of snow is forecast at elevations above 2,000 feet.

For anyone travelling, passes to the south and east of the Rogue Valley will likely have major issues. The Klamath Basin should expect significant additional snowfall.

A Pacific weather system currently off the coast of Northern California will move toward the coast Wednesday, but moisture ahead of the storm will spread northward in advance of the front's arrival.

Snow will develop over higher elevations tonight and continue into Wednesday and Thursday. Southern Oregon east of the Rogue Valley could get up to a foot of snow with the heaviest accumulations to the south.

The Rogue Valley will be on the edge of a White Christmas overnight with snow levels at about 1,500 feet (rain in Medford, snow in Ashland). But during the day snow levels are expected to rise to 3,500 feet, still below pass levels.

The chance for precipitation is 100 percent on Wednesday and 90 percent on Christmas Day.
