Fire Crews Brace for Potentially Busy Weekend
Fire crews get their gear together for what could be a weekend of blazes in Oregon.
Fire dispatchers for Oregon and Washington state in Portland say temperatures rising above 100 degrees this week will abate by Sunday as a storm moves into southwest Oregon on Friday night and spreads north during the weekend.
Spokesman John Townsley of the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center says the lightning strikes aren't expected to be so numerous as those in a storm earlier in August. But he says "there's a substantial risk" of fires.
To be ready, he says, agencies will assemble up to 300 firefighters in Reno, Nevada, and more in Redmond, Oregon.
