MEDFORD, Ore.-A second Park in the Commons is projected to open in November.
The base cost to build it, $1.4 million, was already set aside in the Disposition and Development Agreement (DDA) created for the entire project.
Among the proposed features are four fir trees, to be the center of a lighting ceremony during the holidays, a stage for performances and vendors with a room to serve for dressing and storage, a large grassy area for every-day public use and events seating, and large trees around the park's perimeter for shade.
The Greyhound portal, believed historic by some, is not welcome as part of the Commons by everyone.
""It's just a matter of balancing what is historic and uh, from my standpoint, uh does it really belong and in this case, I don't think it belongs," said Medford City Councilman, Chris Corcoran.
The Landmark and Historic Commission wants pieces of the existing arch used to replicate it in the new park.
An ice-skating rink, estimated at $350,000 is also being considered.
Councilman Corcoran said nothing is set in stone yet.
