MEDFORD, Ore. -- A local motorcycle is moving on up to a bigger space, and thanks to the City of Talent, it's got the green light.
The city council voted to give Brammo motorcycles the re-zoning it needed to move into the old Walmart. The big box store was built was in two differently zoned lots. The city changed it for Brammo to approve light manufacturing.
The change of space will give the company the room it needs for expansion.
CEO Craig Bramscher says the move will give them the chance to build more bikes and hire more employees.
The move will take them from 6,000 square feet for production to almost 100,000.
Right now the company is housed in three different locations, as well as several storage units.
"Our bottle neck is around just floor space and the ability to inventory products so that we can build bikes cause we're trying to build a lot of bikes next year," Bramscher said.
Brammo is hoping to rev up production by about a thousand bikes a year and the new space will help get there.
"We'll have the ability to go about five times as many bikes a day there than we could do here," Bramscher said.
The move will bring 130 jobs to Talent, something that makes Mayor Bill Cecil happy.
Worldwide, Brammo employs 80 people; with the move as many as 250 people could wind up on the payroll.
Cecil says the move will make Brammo one of the largest employers in Talent.
Brammo plans to move production into the new building first but they're not sure when exactly it will happen.
