MEDFORD, Ore --Ed Henline Sr.'s appearance in court Friday was short but he did have an interesting request. When Henline was brought before the judge his attorney's made a motion for his release, to which the judge said, no.
Siskiyou County District Attorney Kirk Andrus says releasing a murder suspect was something the court didn't think was right, "that's not going to happen," he said.
Meanwhile Zaccaglini's family and friends were outraged over the defendants motion. Using a facebook page set up for Hannah and saying; " The defense attorney Andrew Marx tried to get him out, said something about Ed not running for the past 15 years, why would he run now."
Those close to the victim say Henline needs to stay in jail and any new information investigators can get will help keep him locked up. Evening making an online plea; "we need to keep him in there and every little bit of information that we can get to the investigators is important."
Detectives are still working on the police case. Andrus says he expects to continue collecting evidence, "I expect to receive more reports in the future about this," the prosecutor said.
Andrus says all of the police information in the case is the reason why Friday's preliminary hearing was rescheduled for a later date. "It's interesting in this case because it's a case from 1997, so we literally have reports for almost every year," he said.
Henline's lawyers argued they haven't had enough time to review the police reports. The Siskiyou County D.A.'s office sent over more than 300 pages to the defense team just this week. The judge approved the motion for rescheduling, and Henline isn't expected back in court again until march.
