YREKA, Calif. -- Even with
snow at the Siskiyou County Courthouse and a 11 hour drive, Chris MacCallum's
mom Sarah says she plans on attending every court hearing in honor of her son.
“It’s for Christopher,”
she said. “And he's important and so we felt it was important for us to be here
for him.”
On Friday Amber Lubbers was
scheduled for a 6 hour preliminary hearing. Prosecutors would have laid out evidence
as to why they think Lubbers helped kill MacCallum. His body was found in a rural
part of Siskiyou County in November. The other suspect is his wife, Tricia.
However, the defense asked
to have the hearing pushed back. Lubber's attorney says because of the holiday
she wasn't able to review the evidence.
While the judge gives both
sides more time to prepare, the Sheriff Jon Lopey says they feel comfortable
with the case because of evidence found at the crime scene, from search
warrants and the people who know the victims and suspects.
But Lopey says the
investigation is far from over.
“The investigation really
never ends,” he said. “We're counting to develop information and make the case
stronger.”
MacCallum's mom says even
though she will have to spend hours in the car her son is worth the drive.
Lubbers hearing was rescheduled for Jan. 31.
