HORSE CREEK, Calif. -- A dog rescue in rural Siskiyou County is facing eviction. Now the owners are trying to figure out where to send the animal in time for their Wednesday deadline.
The owner of Dexter's Rescue Remedy, Charlot McClendon, says she and the animals just need somewhere to go. She and her team were evicted a month and half ago for the first time ever. McClendon says it's over a dispute with their landlord.
The no-kill dog shelter takes in pets from high kill pounds across the state. So far the non-profit has found homes for 400 dogs. Right now Dexter's has 40 adoptable dogs in its care, as well as some pets in sanctuary. She says if they don't find a place soon all those pets will be taken to animal control.
McClendon has a good relationship with the Siskiyou County Animal Shelter but she knows they don't have room for all the dogs, "the old fearful ones would probably get euthanized, and I just don't want to see that happen," she
McClendon is hoping to stay in Siskiyou County because of the relationships she's built but is willing to move into Oregon if adequate property is available. McClendon says it is a tough time of year to move and she needs at least ten acres to lease.
