Around 11:44 a.m. Sunday, an Oregon State Police trooper spotted a Suzuki R650 motorcycle heading north on Interstate 5 near milepost 81. At this time, police say the motorcycle was doing 95 miles per hour in a 65-miles-per-hour speed zone.
The officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist, but the rider didn't yield, according to a press release from the OSP.
The trooper backed off and stopped his pursuit as the motorcycle rider's speeds increased to over 100 miles per hour and was passing traffic.
Two other troopers spotted the motorcycle south of Roseburg and tried to stop the rider.
The rider failed to yield and passed a third trooper before exiting the Interstate 5 at the Garden Valley Boulevard exit, exit 25, according to the press release.
Troopers lost sight of the motorcycle.
The motorcycle was spotted by a fish and wildlife trooper 17 miles northwest of Roseburg near Umpqua.
Again, police say the rider attempted to elude them and started to head west on Hubbard Creek Road.
The rider continued traveling on the road even though the pavement had ended and the road turned to gravel.
Police say the rider -- identified as 23-year-old Jeffrey B. Engebretson of Grants Pass -- lost control and slid.
He then ran into the woods where troopers were able to take him into custody. He was arrested on the suspicion of felony attempt to elude, reckless driving and reckless endangering another person.
