50-year-old Louis M. Medcalf was arrested Thursday afternoon on the 900 block of South Oakdale Street.
Andrea Carlson with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office says Medcalf started building a relationship with the victim via Facebook.
Carlson said, "It could have been as simple as how was your day and you know kind of take things from there."
Carlson says they received a tip back about Medcalf's relationship with the teen last month.
Detectives say when they searched Medcalf's home, they found evidence on his computer as well as a firearm.
Carlson says Medcalf is a felon and was prohibited from having it, due to being a convicted felon.
Medcalf was lodged in the Jackson County Jail for Online Sexual Corruption of a Child I x 3, Online Sexual Corruption of a Child II x 3, Luring a Minor x 3 and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. His bail is set at $140,000.
Carlson says this case is a good reminder to parents to be vigilant about what their teenagers do on the internet.
"Watch your kids' Facebook accounts make sure you know passwords, you check cell phones regularly because this happens," said Carlson.
Detectives say there could be more victims out there. If you have any information call: 541-774-8333.
The case remains under investigation.
