MEDFORD, Ore. - Medford Police were forced to Taser a woman as she waved a gun near a school Monday morning.
Officers say the situation almost turned into an officer involved shooting.
Police say Mary Aguilar called 911 saying she had a gun and needed help. Dispatchers say she wasn't making much sense.
Police found her walking with a handgun along Columbus Avenue and 2nd Street in Medford at around 7:40 a.m.
Officers say she was blocking traffic and didn't listen to orders to put-down the gun.
"This is the time where there's a lot of morning traffic, there's kids walking to Jackson School," Lt. Mike Budreau said. "She's armed, she's acting strangely, acting aggressively in a populated area, there's a lot of people around, the officers can get injured and she was not complying with commands and had she made more assertive action with the gun, it certainly could have ended very drastically."
Officers say Aguilar eventually put the gun down but strongly resisted arrest and was Tased by officers.
Aguilar is a convicted felon and now faces charges of felon in possession of a weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Police are investigating whether mental illness or drugs were involved in the incident.
