The incident happened around 7:40 a.m. Monday. Medford Police received a call from Mary Gregoria Aguilar, 27, who told dispatchers that she had a gun and needed help, according to a press release from the Medford Police Department.
Police found Aguilar near Columbus Avenue and West 2nd Street. She appeared to be despondent and possibly under the influence of a controlled substance.
Aguilar, police say, was carrying a handgun.
Officers surrounded the woman as she walked into the middle of Columbus Avenue -- blocking traffic.
Police say she was acting irrational and didn't not obey an officer's command to put the gun down.
However, she eventually complied and put the weapon down, according to the release. She continued to yell and act disorderly.
After she was unarmed, police approached her and attempted to take her into custody.
She fought with police, who used a Taser on her. The Taser was effective and Aguilar was arrested.
Police seized a .22 caliber handgun. Aguilar is a felon and is not allowed to have firearms.
She was arrested on the suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and felon in possession of a weapon.
