GRANTS PASS, Ore.-Three Rivers School District reached a tentative contract with teachers last week.
The contract has been in the works since February and is to be voted on tonight at 7:00PM during the Three Rivers School Board meeting at 8550 New Hope Road in Grants Pass.
The President of the Three Rivers Education Association, Dave Marks, says the Association is "in agreement in many ways with the District. [It] has a very good working relationship with [the District]. The dilemma is the state funding formula."
Marks adds the state funding formula forces money to go into things such as state reports, which he feels are "important," but not a "priority [...] in this time of very tight budgets." He believes money should go to "working in the classroom," and "helping a child to read."
The agreement consists of a four-year contract for language and a one-year, flexible financials portion.
It includes a 10-day salary reduction for licensed teachers (approximately $300 for an average teacher), no cost-of-living adjustments, no insurance increase and the possibility of an additional 1.8 day pay decrease.
For high school students in the district, the contract adds 15 minutes a day during second and third trimesters to meet legal school year requirements.
The School Board meeting is open to the public.
